Sun Tribe: Every Success Starts with an Opportunity Sun Tribe

This is the story of a young teenage girl, who on her way home from school, walks by the beach. Every day, she sees people in the water kitesurfing. “It looks cool,” she thinks to herself, “but I could never do that. It looks so difficult and… I don’t have the extra money.”

With a passion for the sport of kitesurfing, KiteSirens is on a mission to change that with the launch of Sun Tribe. It’s an international non-profit event geared at teaching underprivileged young women kitesurfing, for free.

Sun Tribe is the twist in her story. One day, the girl finds out that KiteSirens is coming to her town, offering free kitesurfing lessons to girls her age. “Maybe I CAN do it,” she dreams with enthusiasm. At the beginning, she is very excited, but also a bit nervous. A new challenge can shake anyone; but she is glad that there is another girl learning with her, and that her new friend feels the same.

The first day comes, and she starts the kitesurfing lessons. Before she knows it, she’s in the water facing challenges she once thought were unreachable. As she gains control of herself, the wind, the water and her kitesurf equipment, she is ready to try anything. She learns by watching her buddy too, and together, they develop a friendship by bonding over this exciting new sport, kitesurfing! With her first kitesurf rides, that joy and sense of freedom that every kitesurfer feels fills her body and her mind. Without realizing, she is dreaming about kitesurfing every day.

Most people know how powerful sports can be as catalysts to change lives, especially when it becomes a passion. Learning to kitesurf happens step by step, every little skill being mastered before reaching the next one. Each step is a challenge and an opportunity to succeed. And that success is the main ingredient for growing self confidence. This girl and all the girls that we will teach during Sun Tribe will learn to quickly problem solve, handle all safety procedures, and rely on newly developed skills to become fully independent kitesurfers on the water.

This inevitably leads to a stronger sense of empowerment, not just in the water, but in many other areas of their lives. “I can do anything!” is the feeling this girl walks away with. The ongoing support from KiteSirens, local kitesurfing schools, and new found friends becomes a  positive outlet which encourages even bigger dreams, and further progression in this sport.

Imagine that girl,  and then help us turn her dream and those of many young women into real stories; stories that you help build, and stories that we share from around the world.

To make Sun Tribe happen, we need your support. Every penny counts, and is really appreciated. Check out our crowdfunding campaign at for more information. Click this link:

I think if you ask my friends they might say I am a happy, spontaneous and outgoing kitesurfer. My family would describe me more as a laid back and relaxed person, probably stubborn too. My co-workers might think I am fortunate, passionate and maybe a bit crazy. I see myself as an adventurous, playful, confident and a life lover spirit.
