It’s here again— the holiday season! And with it comes many joyous opportunities to drink, eat and be merry. So, whether you’re looking to burn a few extra calories, or want to amp up your fitness goals for 2017, we’ve put together a workout that will help you make it happen. And, the entire program has been designed specifically as a kitesurfer workout.
This kitesurfer workout was put together and filmed in Toronto, Canada with the help of personal trainer and physiotherapist, Catherine Kaley from Transformfit. This kitesurfer workout is packed with exercises that target the specific muscles we all use when out on the water, including legs, glutes, core, back and arms.
The kitesurfer workout also includes a lot of rotation exercises because let’s face it— when you’re trying to land those new tricks, or just learning to go upwind, toughening up those core muscles will definitely be a benefit. And, Catherine has even included a bonus exercise for those looking to strengthen their knees and ankles, or for those who just want to avoid any injuries before heading out on a kitesurfing trip.
The Program Details for the Kitesufer Workout
Below is the entire 20-minute kitesurfer workout. When we were working on the developing the program, I was put to the test. While this kitesurfer workout is not entirely strenuous, it’s not a walk in the park either. Be prepared to topple over a few times, and sweat a little.
Do 5 rounds of 30 seconds per exercise with 10 seconds rest in between each. Do this 3 times per week for 4 weeks.
- Push-up rotation
- Jump lunge and twist
- Kneeling extensions
- Hiccup into surf (half burpees)
- Single leg deadlift (Bonus! Strengthen your knees and ankles!)
